It’s also been able to hold off the woke invasion happening elsewhere in the system. That demographic - striving immigrants who push their kids to excel - has kept New York humming for decades. My daughter’s NEST classes have been majority immigrant or children of immigrants. While it’s true that black and Hispanic students have been underrepresented in gifted education - and there are solutions to this that do not require dismantling the whole system - it’s not true that immigrant students have been.
